Niagara Regional Police have charged a Thorold man in a fatal collision with a pedestrian earlier this year.

At around 6:50 p.m. on Monday, January 27, emergency crews were called to the area of McLeod Road and Dorchester Road in Niagara Falls.

“Investigation revealed a 79-year-old male was crossing the roadway when a 62-year-old was operating a blue Audi Q3 south bound on Dorchester Road when he made a turn onto McLeod Road,” said police in an earlier news release. “As a result, the vehicle collided with the pedestrian.”

The pedestrian was rushed to an out of region hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

On Wednesday, March 5, the driver was charged with careless driving causing death. He’s scheduled to appear in court in June.

“The driver has been charged with a provincial offence, not a Criminal Code offence, as such his name is not being released,” police said.
