Niagara police officer injured in Fort Erie

On Jan. 18, 2025, at approximately 12 p.m. 5 District (Fort Erie) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to the area of Spears Road North in the Town of Fort Erie for a Domestic Disturbance call for service.

Initial investigation revealed that grounds existed a criminal offence occurred. The NRPS Domestic Violence Unit then took carriage of the investigation. 

At approximately 3:30 p.m., an incident involving the suspect and an NRPS officer occurred. As a result, the officer sustained serious injuries and has been transferred to an out of region hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

The suspect was arrested on scene and transferred to an area hospital in stable condition. Due to the nature of his injuries, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and has invoked its mandate. As such, the NRPS is prohibited from releasing further details.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
