Niagara Regional Police say a driver has surrendered to police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on Sunday in Port Colborne.
Police began investigating the fail to remain collision on Silver Bay Road in Fort Erie around 4:35 a.m. Oct. 6 when emergency services personnel responded to Silver Bay Road for a report of a pedestrian having been struck.
On Sunday at about 9 p.m. the suspect driver attended Niagara Regional Police headquarters in Niagara Falls and surrendered himself for arrest, police said in a news release.
Tyler James MacDonald, 37, of Fort Erie has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of fail to stop after an accident resulting in death, police said.
MacDonald was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
Detectives have located and seized a black Jeep Commander with front driver’s side damage from a residence in Fort Erie, police said.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and MacDonald is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
