On Nov. 27, detectives from the 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) Street Crime Unit began an investigation into a break and enter to Turkstra Lumber, located at 4555 Kent Ave. in the City of Niagara Falls where approximately $75,000 worth of plywood was taken.
As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify two suspects responsible for the break and enter and observed the suspects selling the lumber online.
On Dec. 16, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the area of Merritt Road and King Street in Lincoln. The warrant was executed with the assistance of the Emergency Task Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service, resulting in the arrest of the suspects. A search of the property lead to the discovery of approximately $250,000 worth of machinery stolen from Cooper Rentals in Thorold and a forklift stolen from Battlefield rentals in Stoney Creek, Ont. The value estimated of the forklift is approximately $72,000.
Monica Beauchamps, 42 years old, of Lincoln, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Break, enter commit theft over $5000 (3 Counts)
- Trafficking in stolen property under $5,000
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking stolen property under $5,000
- Possession of stolen property over $5,000
- Theft of motor vehicle
Manuel Periera, 53 years old, of Lincoln, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Break, enter commit theft over $5000 (3 Counts)
- Trafficking in stolen property under $5,000
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking stolen property under $5,000
- Possession of stolen property over $5,000
- Theft of motor vehicle
Beauchamps and Periera were both held in custody pending a bail hearing that took place on Dec. 17, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.
