Mannell, Ilene Laura (nee Beckett) 1928-2024
Peacefully, with family by her side, after a gradual decline in her health, Ilene passed away on July 5, 2024 in her 96th year. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Lewis Mannell in 2014 and their son, Gary in 2002.
Devoted mother to Alan (Liz), Gary 2002 (Doris) and Wendy Di Trani (Anio). Proud grandmother to Carla (Christian), Angela (Anthony), Laura (Greg), Julie, Jessica, Andrea (Craig), Stephen (Genevieve) and Scott (Elyse). Equally proud great grandmother to Emma, Liana, Lois, Eleanor and Cleo. She was predeceased by her twin sister Irene and her brother Ardell.
Ilene was born in Allanburg, grew up in Effingham and moved to Welland and North Pelham with her new husband Lewis in 1952 to live and work on the farm that Lewis had purchased. There they grew cherries, peaches, plums, raspberries, pears and three children. Ilene kept meticulous records of all expenses related to the farm including the number of pounds of nails and their cost to build the house.
Ilene held positions in the secretarial field, full time mother and grandmother as well as being the farm supervisor.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lookout Ridge for their care of mom for the past 9 years.
Family and friends will be received at the Pelham Funeral Home, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill from 1-2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9th followed by the funeral service to honour Ilene's life at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. All are then invited to join the family for fellowship and refreshments back at the Pelham Funeral Home.
