We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Charles Anthony Gracie after a courageous battle with cancer for over a decade on Monday, December 9, 2024. Born on June 17, 1949 in Greenock, Scotland. son of the late James and Mary Gracie, immigrating to Canada in 1953.
Loving partner of Mavis Saari for over 41 years; he was the love of her life. Father of Becky (Bob), Jennifer, Terri (Michael), Shannon (Greg). Papa of Matthew, Taylor, Raymond, Addyson and Great Papa to Maggie. Loving brother of Cecilia, Christine, Trisha (Dave), Philip (Christine) and the late Mary & Maggie and many extended family on both sides.
Chuck worked at Foster Wheeler starting in 1973 as a welder, he was promoted to welding technician till 1997. The company transitioned to Trenergy Inc. and Chuck became Welding Manager of Operations till 2013. Chuck was a valued team player and always had a sense of humour.
Chuck was active in sports, an avid slow pitch shortstop with an amazing fast arm. Known as the “Silver Fox”. He golfed many years with a membership with his golf buddies; he was known for his keen golf knowledge and a powerhouse drive. Sometimes he golfed with the wife.
He enjoyed amazing summers at the cottage in Midland with our daughter, Shannon, and later our granddaughter, Addyson. Chuck & Mavis retired to the cottage for the summer months beginning in 2013. Many winters were appreciated in the Caribbean and South America making memories.
Many thanks to the Walker Cancer Center where Chuck was Dr. Yelamanchili’s “Star Pupil”.
Chuck had a wide circle of friends that enjoyed his ability to tell jokes; he will be greatly missed.
Chuck was Mavis’ best friend. “I love you and remember our pact.”
