On November 22, 2024, Brendan Burgess, aged 31, passed away unexpectedly at his home.
Brendan is survived by his mother and father; Lynn Boos and Blair Burgess; and his younger brother, Patrick Burgess, grandmother, Edyth Burgess, and grandfather, Dennis Drapeau.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Leona (2009) and Gino Marchionda (2023), Maureen Brooks (2001) and Ron Burgess (2024), his uncle, Bruce Burgess (2005) and cousin, Laura Burgess (2004).
He will be dearly remembered by his old friends, many cousins throughout Canada, aunts, uncles, and current and former partners. He had particularly close relationships with his aunt and uncle, Patti and Dan Drapeau, and his long-time former partner, Tiara Scott.
Brendan was a graduate of Niagara College’s General Arts and Sciences program and was a highly valued employee at Care Partners, where he made a positive difference in many lives. He also worked many years at Manor Cleaners.
Brendan attended Central Public School in Grimsby when he was very young, followed by Ferndale Public School and Sir Winston Churchill High School, both in St. Catharines. We remain grateful to his Grade 1 teacher Mrs. Trush for bringing out the best in a shy young Brendan and helping the whole class nurse him through a broken leg from a cycling crash.
As a child, Brendan was very intelligent and rambunctious, with a penchant for debate, competition and pranking. He loved camping, hiking and fishing with his Dad and brother, spending time at his grandmother or aunt’s houses with his Mom and playing soccer or swimming in the pool with his friends.
Brendan enjoyed a long happy soccer career through Saltfleet Go Ahead Soccer in Stoney Creek, Lakemount Indoor Soccer in Grimsby and the Merritton Athletic Association from minor mini right through to teenaged travel.
As Brendan aged, he grew to become an extremely kind, soft-spoken and gentle young man with a big heart and empathy for others. During his free time, Brendan was an avid movie buff and a skilled game player. He spent much of his adult life in a loving relationship with Tiara Scott, both of whom cherished each other deeply. Brendan was loved by many and his tragic loss leaves a hole in all of our hearts.
He will always be remembered fondly.
Cremation has taken place and interment with his late grandmother will be in spring time followed by a reception in Merritton. If desired, tax-receiptable donations may be made to a scholarship in his name at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. Please visit the DSBN page, www.dsbn.org/donate/ then select Scholarships. We thank you in advance.
May God bless your soul, Brendan.
