NEWS RELEASE
NIAGARA TRANSGENDDER ACTION COALITION

The Niagara Transgender Action Coalition (NTAC) invites Niagara supporters to join us on Nov. 20, Transgender Day of Remembrance, for a community self-care event featuring speakers, creative activities and quiet reflection.

The event will be held at St. Catharines Public Library, Central Branch, from 5 to 630 p.m. Pizza, snacks and beverages will be provided.

Across the globe, Transgender Day of Remembrance is an opportunity for allies and advocates to come together and demonstrate support for transgender people, who face significant discrimination in all facets of society. We are experiencing an increasingly hostile environment in Canada and beyond, with an alarming rise in anti-trans rhetoric and new legislation and policies which roll back protections on basic human rights for transgender youth and adults – putting the health and safety of trans, nonbinary, Two Spirit and genderfluid people at risk.

Trans Day of Remembrance is not only about honoring the struggle to survive in the face of systemic discrimination and violence, it is also an opportunity to root ourselves in our collective resilience, supporting and celebrating our communities while persevering to thrive in every aspect of life. This is the focus of our self-care event, which will feature a variety of creative and mindful activities. The NTAC event precedes a Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil to be held at St. George’s Anglican Church at 7 p.m.
