An open house next week will share details about the upcoming replacement of the St. Paul Street West CNR bridge in St. Catharines.

The condition of the bridge, which was built over a century ago in 1922, has been actively monitored since last December when load restrictions and lane closures were put in place.

A recent inspection found the bridge to be deteriorating at a significant rate and it has now reached the point where winter maintenance vehicles can no longer cross.

“As a result, Niagara Region, in consultation with Canadian National Railways, will be closing the bridge to all vehicular traffic to maintain public safety before winter begins,” said a news release from the region.

The bridge is scheduled to be shut down on November 20.

The open house next Wednesday, November 8 will include a presentation addressing:

  • St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and bridge closure
  • Bridge removal and replacement project timelines
  • Detour routes
  • Traffic mitigation plan for the surrounding areas
  • Updates on other Niagara Region and City of St. Catharines construction projects in the St. Catharines GO Station Precinct area

Those who attend will be able to ask the project team questions.

The open house goes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ridley College, Williams Hall on Ridley Road in St. Catharines.
