NEWS RELEASE
FONTHILL LIONS CLUB

The Fonthill Lions Club is pleased to announce its newest member, Dan Guthro.
Dan works as a Quality Inspector for TSI, sister company to Welded Tube. Prior to that he was a hammersmith with Welland Forge, until its closure in October 2020.
Dan also owns DHL - Dan’s Hockey League, a ball hockey league for players of all ages, with games played at the Fonthill Lions rink. He started DHL about 20 years ago, running mini-tournaments behind St. Mary’s School in Welland. After many years of organizing hockey tournaments every long weekend, Dan had built a strong enough following to start a proper league. March 2025 will mark the 7th anniversary of DHL and its association with the Lions.
DHL is very much like the Fonthill Lions in that it is community-driven. It gives players a chance to play ball hockey but also to socialize and feel connected. Team members get to know each other well, but also know other teams’ members. “We encourage positive relationships, and don’t tolerate rough play or fighting. We want people to come have fun, play hard and leave the frustrations behind,” said Dan.
When asked why Dan joined the Fonthill Lions, he said “They have always been good partners for DHL so I wanted to better understand what they do and support them. I knew the Fonthill Lions well from what I observed them doing out in the community but I had no idea of just how involved they are in virtually every aspect of the community, or who they donate to who and who they help. Plus, I want to be a part of giving back to the community beyond what I do for Dan’s Ball Hockey League (DHL). I look forward to contributing.”
