Firefighters' Annual Toy and Pet Drive sets new record

Kids from nearly 60 families—the most ever—will receive gifts

The generosity of the community was visible in the stacks of carefully selected gifts that overtook the fire station hall on Hwy 20 last week. The fire hall was converted into a warehouse, as volunteers organized donations into categories and age groups based on the wish lists of participating families. This year 58 families, the largest number ever, will each receive the gifts that will be distributed to them by Pelham Cares.

With this year having the most families that were requesting support, Fonthill Volunteer Fire Association member and drive chair Yvon Audette wasn’t sure how far the gifts could be stretched, but the number of donations received grew this year too.

“It is always wonderful to see the generosity of the community,” said Audette, as he sorted a bag of donated toys.

“We have had to use every available space to sort the toys, even using the entry way to stack up the Lego sets.”

The Association partners with Pelham Cares to host the yearly Toy and Pet drive, now in its 35th year.
