Sherkston Shores stabbing suspect sought

Police say a 22-year-old male was seriously wounded in a stabbing at the basketball court of a campground in Port Colborne on Saturday night.

Niagara Regional Police say they responded just before 10:30 p.m. to Sherkston Shores campground at 490 Empire Rd. There they found a 22-year-old male suffering from a serious stab wound, police said in a news release.Niagara EMS paramedics treated the victim at the scene. The man was transported to a local hospital for further care. He was later flown by Ornge Air Ambulance helicopter to an out-of-region hospital, according to the release.

The initial investigation determined there had been a fight near the basketball court in the campground. 

Sherkston Shores Security personnel responded but many of those involved had fled, police said.

A suspect was initially arrested at the scene by NRPS officers but was later released unconditionally, according to police, who are still working to identify a suspect.

Detectives said there were many people in the campground at the time of the incident. They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, video recorded it, or have information to contact them by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009046.
