Live camera monitoring used to track suspect

On Monday, April 29, 2024, at approximately 11:25am, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniformed officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to an armed person in the area of Church Street and Queenston Street in the City of St. Catharines.  Uniformed officers were responding to a male wielding a knife towards an unidentified male.

Upon police arrival, the suspect fled on foot towards Niagara Street. With assistance from the NRPS Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC) the suspects location was provided to responding officers with the use of live camera monitoring. Officers conducted a foot chase and subsequently arrested the suspect without incident near Niagara Street and Queenston Street.  

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Brian Hamilton (39 years old) of no fixed address was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences of:

  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Hamilton was released on a Form 9 Appearance Notice with a future court date of June 11, 2024, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
