January 7, 1927 - June 1, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald William Jago, with family by his side.  Don was in his 98th year and is dearly missed by his loving wife and partner of 61 years, Inge.  Dear father of Kenneth Stapleton (the late Candice), Terry Jago (Judy) & Stefanie Vickers.  Boppa/Grandpy will be fondly remembered-by his grandchildren:, Emily (Troy), Evan (Mary), Finley, Calleigh, Tegan, Tawnie and great-granddaughter, Harper.  Don was predeceased by two of his grandchildren, Jamie and Liam.

Don was born to Francis & William in Welland, Ontario on January 7, 1927.  He began his career at 17 travelling the world while working for the Merchant Marines in the United States.  He then turned his sights back to Canada and began working as an engineer on “The Lakers”, advancing to Marine Chief Engineer.  Many family summer holidays were spent sailing up and down the St. Lawrence, the Great Lakes and hopping aboard to join Dad as the boat went through the Welland Canal.  After retiring from “The Lakers”, Don went to work briefly on land for the Port Weller Drydocks, before finally retiring to spend time with family boating, golfing, gardening, and tinkering with anything and everything.

Don’s quiet and unassuming nature, along with his wry smile and sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him.  We hope you’re talking about golf and watches with Liam right now, Dad! xx

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Royal Henley Retirement Community for their compassionate care of Don during his final days.  As per his wishes, Don’s life will be privately celebrated with family.

Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144.  Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
