1948 - 2025
Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the age of 76.
Forever missed by her beloved husband of 44 years Verner. Much loved mother of Jimena, Patricia, Julianna (Alexis) and Roberto (Brianna). Cherished grandmother of Andres, Veronica, Brixton, Braylon and Ophelia. Lovingly remembered by her brother Nelson Castro in Ecuador. Alicia also leaves behind many friends who will greatly miss her and her beloved "adopted" children who were with her until the very end.
Alicia was born in Quito, Ecuador and moved to Canada in 1974. She met her husband Vern the following year while working together in Toronto and they eventually settled in Fonthill, ON in 1990. They opened up the groundbreaking Tradewinds restaurant in 1993 and in addition to being a restaurant owner, she simultaneously ran her at-home daycare where she befriended many in the community. In addition to her love of baking, she loved to spend time with her close family and friends but most notably her grandchildren and "adopted" children from her years as a caregiver. Alicia and her husband Verner planned on returning to their favourite vacation spot in Mexico with dreams of retiring there in the near future.
Friends will be received by the family at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Friday, January 24th from 1 - 2pm followed by a service of remembrance to honour Alicia's life.
