BROIJER, Raymond Einar

1936 -2023

It is with great sadness that we announce Ray's unexpected passing on May 29, 2023, in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Barbara for 64 years.

Cherished Bupa to grandchildren Brandon Broijer (Ashley), Katelynn Smart and Tyler Smart, and step grandchildren Kaitlin MacLeod (Paul), Steven MacLeod (Amanda) and Cameron MacLeod.

Ray's parents, Einar and Lempi, immigrated from Finland and settled in St. Catharines, where Ray was born and raised.

Ray graduated from Waterloo Lutheran University and Western University with a business degree. He met Barbara while living in Waterloo. He started his career with Consumers Gas Company as a purchasing manager. Shortly after, he decided that he wanted to pursue a teaching career. He taught for 32 years at Eastdale Secondary School in Welland and retired as the Head of the Business Department. He was a much-loved teacher, and whenever he was out, previous students would frequently approach him and share that he was one of their favourites. And to their surprise, he would remember them.

Ray enjoyed many hobbies including travelling abroad, playing the violin and gardening. Although his mobility had declined over the years, his mind did not.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Lookout Ridge Retirement Home for their care and compassion.

In keeping with Ray's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will gather for a private graveside service.
