It’s that time of the year again. Holiday music has come to a mall or radio near you. The first decorations have gone up. Christmas, indeed, is coming.
But it’s also the time of year when Wellspring Niagara wants to take some time to give a shout-out to its members, donors and supporters, all the while helping kids and teens experiencing its Light Up Wellspring event on Nov. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at their building, located at 50 Wellspring Way.
The event includes free skate at the Meridian Community Centre from 5 to 6 p.m., as well as a bake sale, a holiday market, free hot chocolate and apple cider, raffles, face painting, and a jam session featuring students from the Niagara Conservatory of Music.
Fort Erie singer Selena Carlson will be performing at the event, something that Wellspring's Community Engagement & Events Coordinator, Jacqueline Ireland promised will be a treat for those who attend.
She saw Carlson perform last August at the Hope Floats Dragonboat event in support of breast cancer research and was in awe.
“She just had this huge palette of voice. Everyone was like, yeah,” Ireland said. “She just was great.”
The event will also include an official building lighting at 7 p.m. to help kick off Wellspring’s holiday campaign in which it is hoped that $100,000 can be raised to support programs for children and teens.
“We’ll have a lot of our younger members who are going to do the building lighting,” Ireland said. “And we have some teachers. It’s to really uplift and empower our kids and families this year.”
While the event is free, there will be an opportunity – via a donation to Wellspring – for families to have a 15-minute photo session with Telara Photobooth & Events, Ireland said.
“You could use this as a holiday photo,” Ireland said. “She has great backdrops. We print the photo for you to take, and then also you get a digital copy.”
Adding to the holiday vibe of the event will be carolers who will perform prior to the building lighting.
