Mayor Frank Campion and Chief Administrative Officer Rob Axiak recently attended the 2025 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto, held from January 19 to 21. This annual conference provides an opportunity for municipal leaders to engage with provincial officials, collaborate with peers, and explore strategies to strengthen communities across Ontario.
“Attending ROMA allows us to bring Welland’s voice to the provincial level, advocate for the needs of our residents, and learn from the successes of other communities,” said Mayor Campion. “These discussions highlight valuable insights that help us shape policies, strengthen partnerships, and bring new ideas back to Welland.”
With a focus on key issues such as housing-enabling infrastructure, access to primary health care, and solutions for homelessness, the conference aligns with Welland’s efforts to build a sustainable, inclusive, and economically vibrant community. Discussions and workshops reinforced best practices that support strategic priorities, including infrastructure investment, economic development, and community well-being.
During the conference, Mayor Campion and CAO Axiak had the privilege of meeting with provincial delegations from the following ministries: Municipal Affairs and Housing; Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development; Transportation; Tourism, Sport, and Culture; and Health.
By participating in this conference, Mayor Campion and CAO Axiak further advanced Welland’s commitment to thoughtful planning, collaboration, and innovation—key pillars of the city’s strategic vision for a thriving and resilient community.
