The Niagara Health Foundation is honoured to recognize Alfredo and Mary Varalli as "Future Builder Donors" for their generous donation of $1 million to the It's Our Future Campaign in support of the new South Niagara Hospital of Niagara Health. This significant contribution will ensure that residents of Niagara will soon have access to a world-class healthcare facility with the latest technology and a patient and staff wellness focus. In recognition of Alfredo and Mary's generosity and support, the nuclear medicine room of the Diagnostic Imaging department will be named the "Alfredo & Mary Varalli Nuclear Medicine Room."

Alfredo Varalli settled in Niagara Falls when he was 16 after immigrating from Italy. He has always felt a deep connection to the community. After opening his first business, a pizza and sub shop, he experienced firsthand the community's supportive spirit. In 1965, he purchased Roman Cheese Products, a small cheese manufacturing plant, and over the past 59 years, has built a successful business distributing quality Italian food across Canada. Alfredo credits his success to the support and belief of the Niagara community, which helped him as a young entrepreneur.

Alfredo and Mary Varalli have a long-standing history supporting healthcare and other Niagara-based organizations. They hope to inspire others and lead by example in giving back to the community that helped them achieve their dreams. "The people of Niagara Falls were good to me, and I want to give something back to them," said Alfredo Varalli, president of Roman Cheese Products Limited.

“This generous gift will improve the quality of care for patients from across Niagara, helping us use nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat patients at the South Niagara Hospital. This contribution from the Varalli family will also play a role in helping us to recruit and retain talented healthcare workers, who want to work in modern, state-of-the-art hospital settings.” said Lynn Guerriero, president and CEO, Niagara Health.

"Alfredo and Mary's donation is a testament to their enduring commitment to our community. Their generosity will have a lasting impact on healthcare in Niagara and we are so thankful for their support of the It’s Our Future Campaign," said Andrea Scott, president and CEO, Niagara Health Foundation.

“What an incredible way to support our community!  Thank you to Alfredo and Mary Varalli for your generous donation toward enhancing our local healthcare!” said It’s Our Future co-chairs Mayor Jim Diodati and Harry Oakes.
