ST. CATHARINES, ON – Over 60 people rallied with the Niagara Movement for Justice in Palestine Israel (NMJPI) in a “Genocide Watch” for Palestine at the main entrance to the Pen Centre mall (near Zehrs) in St. Catharines on Saturday, December 23 at noon and will rally again on Sunday, December 24 at noon at the same location. The rallies are to end the occupation of Palestine, which NMJPI says is the root cause of violence. They are organized with the support of members of Niagara Palestine.

NMJPI co-founder Desmond Sequeira explained, “Over 60 people braved bad weather on the holiday weekend because we believe the Canadian government’s recent support for a ceasefire at the UN General Assembly is only an anemic response to our demands. We came out for a binding ceasefire resolution from the Security Council and an immediate halt to the root cause of the crisis: Israel’s occupation. We will continue to demand real action from our government and can’t stand by while there is a genocide in Palestine.”

The Niagara Movement for Justice in Palestine Israel (NMJPI) was founded in 2020 and has organized demonstrations, letter writing, film screenings, fundraisers, and other actions to bring about permanent peace for all in Palestine and Israel. NMJPI believes the most effective vehicle to accomplish this goal is the global Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement targeting the Government and businesses of Israel and the illegal settlements encroaching on Palestinian land.
