Advocates from Positive Living Niagara joined Pelham staff and elected officials on Tuesday, Nov. 27, to raise a flag in recognition of World AIDS Day, coming Dec. 1.
The date has marked World Aids Day since 1988. Nearly 40 million people were living with HIV globally last year. According to the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, HIV remains a global pandemic, with 1.3 million news cases in 2023—or one new infection every 30 seconds.
Positive Living Niagara is a community-based organization intent on providing support, education, and advocacy in a safe and confidential environment for HIV-positive individuals, their families, and their friends. Started in 1987 as the AIDS Committee of Niagara, PLN acts as an advisory committee to the Niagara Regional Public Health Service’s AIDS Program, and has evolved into a non-profit AIDS service organization.
