NEWS RELEASE
NIAGARA PENINSULA CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority is hosting an information session to discuss the potential implementation of the ALUS program in the Niagara Peninsula watershed. Insights and feedback from valued members of the farming and agricultural community are essential to this conversation.

The ALUS program empowers farmers and ranchers to create sustainable, ecosystemfocused projects on marginal or environmentally sensitive lands, with a goal to enhance the valuable services these lands provide—such as clean air, clean water, and habitat for pollinators.

In communities where ALUS is active, the program provides cost-sharing support for the establishment and monitoring of projects such as wetland creation, erosion control, offsite watering systems and fencing off sensitive riparian areas, seeding native grasses, creation of pollinator habitat, and construction of eco-buffers.

Event Details:

  • Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, at 7 p.m.
  • Ball’s Falls Centre for Conservation, 3292 Sixth Ave, Lincoln, ON L0R 1S0

Please RSVP by November 10th, by emailing Geoffrey Verkade, Senior Manager of Integrated Watershed Strategies at NPCA, at [email protected].

Your perspective matters: During this session, NPCA aims to learn more about your experiences and ideas regarding ALUS. The program is currently being delivered in 39 communities across Canada, and this feedback will help assess its suitability for the Niagara Peninsula watershed.

Those who cannot attend are welcome to subscribe to the ALUS mailing list to stay abreast of progress.
