NIAGARA TRANSIT COMMISSION

The Niagara Transit Commission (NTC) is pleased to announce the successful negotiation of a groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement with Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 846 that will govern their relationship for five years, from Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2027.
ATU Local 846, which represents approximately 376 dedicated employees involved in transit operations and maintenance, played a crucial role in this historic achievement. The agreement marks a significant milestone as it consolidates three pre-existing collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) of the former transit providers in Niagara into a single, unified contract, reflecting the seamless integration of the workforce into the newly amalgamated transit system.
The agreement resulted in harmonizing rates of pay and commits to increases of three per cent per year retroactive to Jan. 1, 2023. All labour costs in the delivery of transit services fall within the NTC board’s mandate, and regional council’s previously approved budgets.
This collaborative effort between the NTC and ATU Local 846 not only reinforces the commitment to the welfare of transit workers but also sets the stage for enhanced operational efficiency and improved service delivery to the residents and visitors of the region.
The NTC looks forward to continued collaboration with ATU Local 846 that will undoubtedly contribute to the success and sustainability of the transit system in Niagara. To learn more about transit in Niagara, please visit nrtransit.ca.
