A snow squall watch has been issued for the southern Niagara Region.

Environment Canada says lake effect snow off Lake Erie is likely to affect the area Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.

Accumulations could reach 15 to 25 cm.

And with westerly or southwesterly winds gusting to 50 km/h, local blowing snow could reduce visibility.

"Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common," Environment Canada explained. "Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow."

"Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve."
