Glory Days for Bandshell patrons

Six-piece band Hungry Hearts perform Bruce Springsteen tribute

The Fonthill Bandshell audience offered a truly Canadian welcoming for the decidedly American stylings of the music of Bruce Springsteen, during a live performance by the Hungry Hearts band, last Thursday, July 4.

Playing a two-hour set without a break (perhaps in tribute to the Boss’s own longer concert style), the Hungry Hearts ran through a catalogue dating back more than 50 years, with iconic tunes such as Glory Days, Thunder Road, I’m on Fire, Pink Cadillac, Dancing in the Dark and – fittingly for a July 4 concert date – Born in the USA/Jungleland. Older and maybe lesser-known tracks had equal standing as well, including Waitin’ on a Sunny Day, Cadillac Ranch and Sherry Darling.

A cloudy sky did nothing to deter a full crowd throughout Peace Park and on the adjacent roadway, where a dedicated set of patrons can been seen most weeks matching their line-dancing moves to whatever rhythm the bands provides.

Fonthill Bandshell Music Director Jim Casson noted that the bandshell has most likely welcomed its first second-generation performer, in the form of 16-year-old Emilio Geremia, who joined his ‘slightly older’ bandmates Anthony Savoia, Joseph Minicucci, Max Turavani, Dave Colonico, and Michael Cocco, for a stellar turn at the keyboards.

Next up is The Dirty Pioneers, sponsored by Professional Referral Group. All concerts start at 7 p.m.
