Niagara Region is now accepting applications from organizations for the Niagara Prosperity Initiative to support poverty reduction.
Applicants may request between $100,000 to $300,000 per year, for three years for targeted projects aimed at working together to prevent and end poverty and increase well-being in Niagara. The targeted projects are informed by local needs and best practices as outlined in the Niagara Poverty Reduction Strategy.
To be eligible for funding, organizations must:
- Align with a project targeted for investment
- Be incorporated as a non-profit organization, registered charity or be an urban off-reserve Indigenous-led organization
- Provide services to Niagara region residents
- Ensure equitable and inclusive service delivery to people living in poverty or at risk of poverty
Applications are open until Oct. 31, 2024. Niagara Region plans to communicate funding decisions in December 2024 and issue agreements to applicants approved for funding in early 2025. Execution of agreements is contingent on Council budget approval.

The Niagara Poverty Reduction Strategy was endorsed by Regional Council in March 2024. The five-year strategy is driven by diverse perspectives and experiences, shaped by people who are affected by poverty and often underrepresented in research. The recommendations in the strategy are supported by research. The strategy informed where to target investment through the Niagara Prosperity Initiative to have the biggest impact on poverty reduction.
