DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD OF NIAGARA

At Tuesday night’s Board Meeting, District School Board of Niagara (DBSN) Trustees approved “Bridgeview French Immersion Public School,” as the official name for the new elementary school in Welland, set to open September 2025.
The Ad Hoc Naming Committee reviewed the Board’s naming policy and best practices on December 4. The following day, Gordon and Princess Elizabeth Public School community members were invited to submit suggested names along with their rationale through a link posted on the school websites. On January 16, members of the Naming Committee gathered at Princess Elizabeth Public School to help select a preferred name.
“After hearty discussion, the Committee chose Bridgeview French Immersion Public School as the school’s name, acknowledging Welland’s historic bridges and the merging of two school communities,” said Simon Hancox, Superintendent of Student Achievement and Well-Being.
“This name reflects DSBN’s commitment to creating safe and welcoming learning environments for students and staff. We appreciate the care and consideration shown by the Naming Committee. With construction already underway, we look forward to welcoming everyone to a fully renovated and completely up-to-date facility in September 2025. As always, we extend our thanks to the Board of Trustees and the Ministry of Education for their ongoing support as we expand learning opportunities for students at DSBN,” said Kelly Pisek, Director of Education.
