The Meridian Community Centre, East Fonthill. The MCC is hosting its own birthday party today, Saturday, Sept. 14.

The Town is providing a free shuttle service to and from the Meridian Community Centre for an event to celebrate six years since it opened.

Shuttles start at noon today and will run in continuous loops – each loop is expected to take 20 minutes – beginning and ending at the MCC (rear entrance near the flagpole) with the following stops:

• 20 Pelham Town Square (back parking lot across from Peace Park Dental)

• Fonthill United Church

• St. Alexander Catholic Elementary School parking lot (in the front parking lot off of Hwy 20)

The final shuttle will leave Meridian Community Centre at approximately 11:30 p.m.

There will be no service from 3 p.m. to 3:30 and 8 p.m. to 8:30.

There are several events taking place at the MCC, including:

• Inflatable Arcade Zone in the gym, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Magic Show, 11:15 a.m.

• Roaming Magic, Noon-2 p.m.

• Free Family Skate, 2-4 p.m.

• Food vendors in the Courtyard, 5-11 p.m.

• Entertainment in the Courtyard, 6-11 p.m.

“This celebration is possible because of the wonderful residents who visit the MCC year-round for events, classes and programs,” said Vickie van Ravenswaay, the Town’s Director of Recreation Culture and Wellness. “It is a great way to say thank you for making the MCC such a well-loved fixture in Pelham.”

This is the first time that the Town has celebrated an anniversary of the opening of the $36-million community centre, which officially opened its doors on Sept. 15, 2018.

The 143,000 square-foot facility includes adaptable and multi-purpose community rooms, a large activity centre with two full courts, two NHL-sized rinks, an indoor walking track, concession areas, change rooms, washrooms, and an atrium/lobby area.

The Town event is being run the same day as Wellspring Niagara’s community appreciation event, which will feature a host of local vendors during the day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Afterwards, visitors will be able to sample food from local food trucks and enjoy live entertainment provided by Andy Colonico and Beatles tribute Revolver until 10 p.m.
