PelhamToday received the following letter to the editor from reader David Pihach regarding the rankings of schools in the Niagara school boards.

What is predictably laughable is the reaction of our two Niagara school boards to the current rankings of their schools relative to the 689 Ontario high schools indicated within the recent Fraser Institute’s Report Card.

For example, Holy Cross Secondary is given a poor ranking of 516/689 while Blessed Trinity in the same board is given a high ranking of 52/689. The board’s director, Cipriano states that the criteria for evaluation is a “snapshot” and somehow inaccurate. I wonder how the principal and staff at Blessed Trinity feel when their high provincial ranking is measured as inaccurate by their director? It’s as if the Catholic Board is afraid to acknowledge success yet are very determined and quick to excuse failure.

Similar examples could be made within DSBN however the DSBN spokesperson takes it a step further by saying the Fraser Institute’s results are “flawed”.

An inappropriate “snapshot” and “”flawed “ are the two “talking points” established by our two Niagara boards to describe the Fraser Institutes rankings.

Seriously..that’s the best you can do? Why are some schools achieving positive results and others are failing? Your parents and children deserve better answers.
