PelhamToday received the following letter in response to an article about Free mulch in Fenwick

One of the inanest rituals will soon start in Pelham. Many homeowners will spend hours removing mulch (leaves) from their properties and placing the mulch in paper bags for the town to pick up.

A recent article in PelhamToday stated "Spreading some mulch in the fall can go a long way to ensuring trees in your yard will have the food they need come spring." The mulch is already there from the leaves that have fallen from the trees. Mow the leaves into smaller pieces with your mower or rake the leaves around the base of your trees. The leaves (mulch) will help insulate the base of your trees over winter and provide the food they need come spring.

You only need to walk in a forest to see that leaves do not have to be removed. Leaves create a rich mulch and do not kill trees.
