LETTER: Living on the wrong side of the road

Reader finds the snow removal in his neighbourhood a bit skewed

PelhamToday received a copy of following resident letter to Pelham Town Councillor Bob Hildebrandt:

Hi Bob,

I thought that after my last email to you about the snow clearing service we receive on the lower end and east side of Pelham Street our problems would be over.

Oh, how wrong I was!

It appears that our staff and contractors somehow seem to miss the mark when it comes to providing acceptable service. Or perhaps they do not care that I as a 77-year-old senior and my daughter in-law had to clear their mess from the end of our driveway last night.

Maybe the problem is in the design of the roadway. The east side (our side) has NO boulevard adjacent to the roadway to absorb the plowed snow, while the west side does. In my humble opinion, this design is part of the problem we are experiencing with the snow plow (dis)service.

Last night my daughter in-law and I had to clear two two-foot-high walls of snow and ice. To our surprise this afternoon, we were not disappointed and found two more walls of snow and ice at the end of our driveway (see attached). In contrast our neighbours on the other side of the road did not experience our hardship (see attached).

My wife and I are seniors, so how long do you expect us and others (neighbour got stuck in his mess) to put up with this disservice. Some training is in order, since you (the Town) receive sufficient funds from me it should not be a budgetary problem.

If we had a life-and-death situation, we would not be able to get out of our driveway because the TOWN blocks us in! Since we don't have a problem on the west side, I am sure you can get it done right for our side, or perhaps we just live on the wrong side of the road.
