PelhamToday received the following letter to the editor regarding the housing crisis:

Housing is a human right, yet, in Canada, the ability to access safe, affordable housing feels increasingly out of reach for many. It is encouraging to hear that so many Canadians are optimistic and believe in the collective responsibility to support one another, but good intentions alone won’t solve the housing crisis.

When affordable housing is replaced with options that only cater to upper-class individuals, we allow the creation of communities that exclude struggling members. This counters the inclusive values that Canadians claim to prioritize. If housing truly is a human right, we need to treat it like one by implementing policies that protect and expand affordable options.

If we are serious about making Canada a place where everyone has an equal chance to thrive, action needs to be taken.
