PelhamToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Susan Pruyn, in regards to the recent Canada Post strike:
Executives and managers at Canada Post receive generous bonuses. At the same time, executives seek to alter the pension plan of the front-line workers who make it possible for them to receive bonuses.
According to a report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, in 2022, Canada’s top 100 CEO’s made 246 times more than the average worker. This is a reflection of the difference between the top brass at Canada Post and the workers.
I found it very mean spirited to lay off workers while they are on strike. Is this even legal? Also, to cut off their benefits while on strike is very cruel.
To increase the profitability of Canada Post why don’t they have banking tied in with the post offices. Many countries do this. This would be particularly helpful in rural communities where banks have moved to larger urban centres.
