WATTS UP: Marine life in miniature

Some of my favourite sea life

Macro photography was always fascinating to me, and I’ve often stayed more or less under a dive boat just looking in all the nooks and crannies to see what I could find and sometimes photograph.

What’s not to like about seeking out the tiny stuff on any dive? The above are only a fraction of the macro life that inhabits our coral reefs and will always be my first choice to look for on every dive.

I still don’t understand why, within a few weeks of hearing my contract in the Royal Navy of Oman would not be extended after eight years, that the very first PADI Dive Instructor Course was planned, in Oman, towards the end of my time there. Particularly as Oman had already given me the opportunity to reach my PADI Divemaster certificate, the prerequisite to being accepted on an Instructor course.

Not pre-planned yet a totally unlooked for and unearned opportunity to start my new ‘Beach Bum’ career once I left Oman! I still ask myself why I was allowed to be so lucky?
