COTE'S COMMENTS | Niagara the beautiful

Lucky are we who dwell among orchards
An orchard in Fenwick. | Voice File

I think by virtue of the fact that they may have lived here for some time many of our residents take the beneficence of this place for granted.

Unquestionably, there may be some vexations with living in Niagara but residing in this world-renowned fruit basket should almost obliterate some of such discomfiture. If not the fresh fruit of the orchards then for goodness sake turn to the locally brewed fruit of the vine to reduce your disagreement with this well known fact. Above and beyond that blessing is living next to a Seventh Wonder of the World, which contributes a roaring amount of revenue to the coffers of the municipalities and many commercial enterprises throughout the region.

Although the people of Niagara are known to be a welcoming and friendly bunch, when it comes to their agricultural produce they are entitled to eschew humility and be modestly boastful. Living among the orchards of fruits and acres of vegetables should never be taken for granted. These fertile grounds are among the best lands in the world and annually prove that enviable reputation.

A drive through Niagara’s rural acreages in the spring can be a sensual delight almost beyond description. Such virtually endless displays of fruit trees in full bloom and the grounds erupting with greenery are a sight to behold. Such visits to these marvelous grounds during the spring season are guaranteed to lift the spirits of even the grumpiest among us. Such a visitation could, without a doubt, be called a near heavenly experience.

Soon thereafter the fruits appear and ripen to become the most delightful stimulation to the taste buds. Munching on an apple fresh from the tree, a strawberry from the dew-laden foliage, or tippling a glass of exquisitely brewed wine are among the annual delicacies eagerly looked forward to and are the good fortune of Niagara’s residents. Such beneficence is to the envy of many from outside the region. If such envy be so, then Niagara’s residents should regularly count their blessings to live on such hallowed grounds.
