Contract Dates: 6 months from start of contract with possibility of extension. 35 hrs/week. 90-day probation period.

Pay: $24 CAD/hr, paid biweekly

Location: This position is primarily based at ONCD’s Northern Ontario office, located in the Sault Ste. Marie Museum, with the option for flexible workdays to be determined.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Marketing Director, the Communications and Events Associate, Northern Ontario will support the growth and visibility of Ontario Culture Days (ONCD) initiatives across Northern Ontario. The intern will assist in executing marketing strategies, fostering community engagement, and supporting the successful delivery of arts and culture events, all while enhancing Northern Ontario’s profile as a cultural tourism destination.

Key Responsibilities
Marketing and Communications:

- Increase visibility for Ontario Culture Days, its partner events, and Northern Ontario as a cultural tourism destination through content creation, marketing campaigns, and on-site branding to raise awareness and attract visitors to the region’s events.
- Support and adhere to marketing and content plans, maintain an editorial calendar to ensure timely content delivery.
- Produce engaging written and visual content for ONCD’s digital platforms, including websites, social media, and e-newsletters, and track measurement across platforms and campaigns.
- Help build and maintain webpages within the content management system (CMS), ensuring they are user-friendly and up-to-date.
- Assist in coordinating, producing, implementing, and distributing print and digital marketing materials, including promotional graphics, event signage, and advertisements.

Outreach and Support:

- Support outreach to arts organizations, tourism boards, and municipal culture departments to strengthen the Northern Arts Network and support Northern Ontario’s arts and culture sector through partnerships and events.
- Offer guidance, resources, and professional development opportunities to event organizers participating in Ontario Culture Days.
- Contribute to the development of Northern Festival Hub partnerships to increase community engagement.

Event Development and Execution:

- Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of local arts and culture events in Northern Ontario.
- Support post-event reporting.

General:

- Participate in regular in-person team sessions in Sault Ste. Marie, contributing to team discussions, sharing progress, and ensuring alignment on goals.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed.
- Identify and resolve issues promptly and professionally.


Required Experience

- Minimum 2 years post secondary education in a related field of study (completed or in-progress), or commensurate experience
- Experience writing and editing content, writing samples will be required
- Experience managing and measuring social media
- Experience in marketing, social platforms, e-newsletter campaigns, audience / community outreach, and general communications
- A solid understanding of effective grassroots and digital marketing techniques
- An understanding of WordPress, MailChimp, Buffer and Google Ads
- Experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
- Experience working in a similar role, related to the arts, culture and heritage sector; tourism experience is an asset
- Strong time-management and organizational skills with a capacity for self-direction, the ability to take initiative and manage a diverse set of responsibilities.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, candidates must:

- Be a youth (aged 30 and under) who is unemployed or underemployed.
- Have graduated within the last three (3) years with a degree, diploma, or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Have not previously participated in any federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six (6) months or more.
- Not be related to directors, officers, or managers of the recipient.
- Be living and working in Northern Ontario.
